The real mistake wasn't that we picked a bad factory. It was that we were comparing products with the wrong numbers. Most RFQs I receive still ask for wattage, color temperature, and price. Those are table stakes, not differentiators. Two fixtures can both be 20W and 4000K. One will spread light evenly across a 12-foot aisle. The other will create a bright circle with the rest of the room in shadow. The difference is beam angle, reflector geometry, delivered lumens, and thermal design.

Here's the part I didn't understand for too many years: heat is the silent spec. An LED fixture does not fail because of bad luck. It fails because the temperature at the driver or the solder joint exceeds its design limit. A low-cost fixture may work brilliantly on a test bench in a 22°C room, then slowly degrade in a 40°C warehouse ceiling.   2. Ask for photometric files. An .ies or .ldt file shows how the fixture distributes light. Without it, you're comparing marketing claims.
