How to Evaluate Track Lighting Manufacturers Without Learning the Hard Way

Under $3,000: use a distributor. Their markup pays for stock availability and someone who answers technical questions.

$3,000 to $15,000: the gray zone. Quote both channels. I've seen distributors undercut direct quotes when they needed to move stock, and direct quotes undercut distributors by 20% when no middle margin was involved.

Above $15,000: go direct. Especially if you need private labeling, custom optics, or ongoing technical documentation support.
